Encircled with Love

Several years ago, I retired from a wonderful school. It was the first public Montessori School in North Carolina. One of our founding teachers was recently diagnosed with cancer. She was an avid quilter. She started the tradition that continues today. When a staff/ family member is dealing with cancer, the staff would come together and create quilt blocks with messages of love and hope for the person. After Sherry was diagnosed with cancer, I was called to help pull the project together. As with any project dealing with a bunch of people there were issues but the guiding light was to get something ready for a beloved friend. I'm proud that I was able to work on this project. I can't wait to see Sherry's reaction to her quilt and all of those messages of love. PS. I went to visit Sherry one pretty spring day. She wanted to make sure that quilts she'd started got finished. I told her not to worry, Melinda and I would take care of it. On our way home, we received the call that she had passed. I guess she was relieved that her work would be completed. Sherry passed just a few months after receiving her quilt. Friends and family members said it was never far from her side and she would get really feisty if she didn't have it. I know it was special to her, but was just as special to her husband. After Sherry passed, he had Melinda attach a pocket and it now hangs in the living room of their home.
