River Log Cabin with Aboriginal Prints
We lived in Australia for 2 and a half years and I fell in love with Aboriginal art. After a recent visit back to see friends, I decided to put together the Aboriginal fabrics (M&S Textiles) that I had been collecting. I liked the circular nature of the River Log Cabin because circles are used extensively in Aboriginal art. They usually represent campsites in Dreamtime stories, but are also used as the base elements of many paintings. Pathways to water holes or campsites are essential as well and the River Log Cabin had both! I did modify the MSQC pattern by adding blocks to create a 10x10 quilt with 2 borders to get to a queen size. I selected another print for the backing and a "Double Bubble" circular pattern to quilt it.
On a side note, one of the first fabrics I collected was a print by Anna Pitjara. I thought the name sounded familiar. When I returned home, I checked a painting we have from Australia and sure enough, it was by Anna Pitjara as well.
