Saw this idea on Pinterest, to make a baby grand piano out of log cabin blocks. I realized that the blocks were the curved log cabin blocks in Jenny's tutorial. I work with theatre groups who do musicals. We had one very talented pianist that did the music for 3 plays. I wanted to make this for her! Love how it turned out! In making the keys, I did one of the three using raw edge appliqué. I was afraid this wouldn't hold up to washing, so I pieced the other two. It was more work, not as straight, but I think it will hold up better.

Bold and Beautiful, plus Two

Here'S another quilt made from the Michele D'Amore fabrics. Love this color Way! I used my mitered piano key border on this one. I love doing piano key borders mitered rather than just butted up against each other. I do the mitered first instead of last, doing all 4 corners first, then filling in the middle of each side with additional piano key strips. If I need to make the strips a bit narrower or wider to fit, you notice it much less in the middle rather than at the corners. My friend quilted this as a practice quilt while learning to use my longarm. She quilted her beautiful 365 day challenge quilt ( in last picture) on my longarm after just a little bit of practice!

MoonShadow in a Field of Blue

MY daughter wanted a quilt. It had to have a modern flai, and her favorite color is blue! We negotiated many quilt patterns, and I bought several precut packages to try to accomodate the patterns she chose. This went on for a couple of years. Finally, I found the pattern for the quilt, published by the fabric company Benartex. The fabrics were designed by Michele D'Amore, and I ended up using three different collections of hers, all in the same color way. I have so much leftover fabric, I can make at least 4 lap quilts using it! Already made 2, and it hasn't put a dent in the fabric pile! Daughter loves her quilt!

Triple Irish Chain

I love making Irish Chain Quilts! My challenge after making several single Irish Chain quilts was to make a double or triple Irish chain. Beaurtiful Stonehenge fabric was my inspiration, and Eleanor Burns tutorial helped me build my blocks! I love the soft fuzzy look of the chains formed from the three shades of green. I wanted it quilted beautifully, so I sent it to Missouri Star for quilting and bought the beautiful backing from them! It stayed tucked away, quilted but unbound, for 3 years! I finally bit the bullet to hand bind it last month! Now, it may never leave my bed!

Robot Quilt ~ "Making Friends"

My niece-in-law fell in love with Robert Kaufman's "robot fabric line" and by the time I got to making the quilt I had promised for her baby, Henry, there was no robot fabric in that line to be found. So, I went about making my own "Robot" for Henry, and a little boy who is sharing his toys with the friend he has just "made" ~ thus, I titled the quilt "Making Friends"

Circles and Stars

This quilt is from a kit by American Jane called Twinkle Twinkle. It made up into a small quilt about 28x33. I used a set of American Jane fabric squares and some beige fabric. I had never done prairie points before. I wish there had been some more instruction on putting the quilt together after the top was done because I had to wing it and I wasn't happy with my results. In picture of the quilt, my faithful quilt dog, Sam, is in the background.

Quatrefoil Stars

Latest quilt. This was made for Heartworks (local quilt shop) 20th anniversary celebration planned for later this year - August. There will be a quilt show, talk by Deb Strain (Moda fabric designer) and other components to the day. One of the celebration fabric collections to be used in quilts made is Garden Notes (which is what I used). There is a theme of bees in a lot of collections this year - as in this one. The quilt pattern is Quatrefoil Stars. (Do you see the stars. Focus on the green center.) The long arm quilted pattern I chose is Honey. Fun. It will be great to see what everyone makes for this. Quite a milestone for Heartworks to be in business for 20 years.
