Winding Ways
One of my boxes of collecting fabrics were some wonderful blues. But, I had no clue what to do with them. The Winding Ways pattern intrigued me; but I like to have a recipient in mind before embarking on a quilt. I seem to get them completed in a more timely manner. My Sister-In-Law was excitedly showing me her collection of Blue Danube dishes...blue and white! I looked around and egads! Her whole house was pretty much in blue and white! I peaked in her bedroom; queen sized! I contacted a niece for Sister-In-Law's children's phone numbers and I texted them. The agreed to pay the amount to finish the quilt and I set off. Man, this pattern really was difficult in that the curves had to be right to come out at the centers! Did the flip flop of the centers to get them as flat as possible. Using Google images I looked at a lot of these quilts quilting. A meander distorted the curves. So, I quilted a 1/4 inch from the seams (echoed) and highlighted all the curves. It actually helped to even them out. In the border I used elements of the dishes to create a continuous line. Her kids gave it to her at Christmas. She claimed she won! Another Sister-In-Law wanted everybody to pass their present to the left so she would end up with the quilt.
