Dads Lap Covering after West Nile Virus
Our father contracted WNV back in early 2000s. He was hospitalized for some time. He lost the use of his legs. Being 6ft and weighing around 165, he was fairly thin anyway. He would get chilled easily and had asked me to make a lap quilt for traveling back and forth doctoring. He wanted it narrow enough to just fit in the wheelchair. I used old pants, batting and a chunk of leftover flannel. He worked with therapist and at home to try and strengthen his legs. He was fitted for leg braces and was able to finally walk with those and canes. Soon after his eyes started macula degeneration till he was so bad, he couldn't see. His mental health went downhill after that. He passed away in 2015.
As a Cowboy all his life, we thought ranch life would have done him in, instead it was a mosquito.
