By Gaga2six 17 LIKES | 1230 VIEWS Crown Jewels My daughter has dabbled in sewing into adulthood, but her creative efforts have been geared to paper crafts and refinishing furniture pieces. She found the need for some sewing skills as she has reupholstered small chairs in her furniture restorations. But last Christmas, she got bitten by the quilting bug, and started creating with fabric. This was a kit, called Crown Jewels that she bought, and for her first bed (king) size quilt, she did an awesome job! I quilted and bound the quilt. So proud of our joint project! By JeanJean71 15 LIKES | 1140 VIEWS Good Night Irene and Fence Rail Star I was going through my stash and found some batik strip pieces, a whole bunch of them, sewn together in 2s and 6-1/2" long! I realized that by sewing a third strip onto these, I'd have a perfect Fence rail block! But I didn't just want plain Fence rails, so I sewed a cornerstone on each to make the Good Night Irene pattern. Just as I finished sewing 80 cornerstones on, Jenny came out with the tutorial for the Fence rail star! I love that block but only had 10 Fence rails left, so I was able to make one star. I used it as a part of the backing. Quilted it using feathers, which I am getting better at! By JeanJean71 10 LIKES | 1212 VIEWS Fat Friday I bought a kit that used fat quarters called Fat Friday. It uses 12, 16, 20, 30 fatquarters, depending on how big you want the quilt to be. Each block ends up 16" square. I found this to be a VERY EASY pattern to use for a quick and colorful quilt. The pattern suggests piling the fat quarters in a stack and cutting many at a time. I stacked 4 of them to make this 12 block quilt. All fabrics pulled from my stash to go with 5 that came together in a fat quarter bundle. Quilted with my favorite swirls. My friend loved it, it has a soft flannel backing, so I gave it to her! My client showed me the top that she found among things left behind for her in an estate. She found several quilts and quilt tops. This one by far was the prettiest and in perfect shape. It was hand embroidered and hand pieced, very accurately sashed and bordered. I was a bit intimidated to quilt it, but chose my shabby chic roses and leaves for the sashing and borders and small stippling for surrounding the embroidered flowers. It was so pretty and feminine, I thought it begged for a scalloped border. My LQS sales lady suggested plain white binding, as that was usually used in vintage quilts. It was so pretty, I didn't want to give it back! By JeanJean71 12 LIKES | 1030 VIEWS Rose of Sharon My daughter wanted a quilt for her bedroom wall. There are so many versions of this block. I came up with this. By Gaga2six 13 LIKES | 1005 VIEWS 2 Much Fun! When my first grand turned two, I made this Peek-a-Boo quilt for him. It was my first time to use chain piecing. Also, I used a large font design to trace onto some Heatbond Lite for the lettering applique. I even employed my low-end embroidery machine for a label. Fun how much one learns with each new project! I I changed it up a little...different fabric, changed the shapes slightly & added a border. I'm going to gift it to one of my husband's co-workers who is about to be a first time Grandma. Hope she likes it! By Michelle4332 58 LIKES | 4403 VIEWS Row By Row 2017 I won !!
