Rebeccas-sewing's likes Hummingbird Garden This is the quilt I made as a wedding present for my brother and sister-in-law. They have several hummingbird feeders in their yard and enjoy watching the hummingbirds. When I saw the name on the pattern -"Hummingbird" - I knew it was the one I wanted to use. Quilting is stitch-in-the-ditch around the "hummingbirds" and hand quilted in the middle of each hummingbird and the background. Rather than making her a peacock quilt, I made her a flying geese quilt in peacock-colored batiks on a black background. She loves it. I found the pattern in "Patchwork Picnic" by Suzette Halferty and Nancy Martin and started it in 2003. I finished piecing and appliqueing in 2004 but didn't finish the hand quilting until 2009. It's a happy quilt and I still love it. By stashhappy 19 LIKES | 1733 VIEWS Hopping Hearts He likes frogs. She likes rabbits. They love each other! My brother asked me to make a relationship quilt for his wife's birthday using their two favorite things - frogs and bunnies. I was inspired by the fact he knew what a relationship quilt was and by a bricks and bunnies pattern I saw on the internet. I changed out some of the bunnies for frogs and added a big heart where these hoppers found found each other. It's one of several baby quilts that I have stored away for when I need them. By Bec02 40 LIKES | 1981 VIEWS Annalise's Quilt Baby quilt for my 4th granddaughter. Design came from 2 different fish quilts I found online. I used blues b/c her room is painted a light/medium teal that changes hues as the sun light moves through the day. Some of the fabric patterns mimic water. The border is scraps of the fish fabrics that follow the fish from light to dark around the quilt. Quilting was done in waves to represent water. By jowagnon 27 LIKES | 1679 VIEWS Tree Lot I saw this Daniela Stout pattern and example quilt at the San Diego Quilt Show in 2012and fell in love. Batiks! I got Robert Kaufman's Cornucopia 2 jelly roll for the trees, Cornucopia 2 Autumn for the backing and Makower UK Essentials White for the background. Fast forward two years and my cousin is getting married. They are from Missouri where trees and snow are a thing. They live in CA so a lap quilt would be perfect and fit in my novice wheelhouse. Daniela was incredibly helpful with the tree top block since the first time out I cut off the points by mistake. All quilting is trial and error. :) I pieced it and fretted. A wedding gift is a heady thing so I decided to have Missouri Star Quilt Company (LOVE them) do the machine quilting. The job they did with the snowflake pattern was amazing. I created a lovely label by printing a fabric background with lettering in a box in the center and sent it off with some $$ in case they really weren't quilt people. ;) Needless to say, I heard back today and they LOVE it. I am so gratified and stoked to keep on what has become an incredible journey. I love piecing and learned so much. Next up will be my first attempt at machine quilting myself.
