Susieq75's likes Quilts for FEMA & the mud slide in Oso WA disaster It was the largest natural disaster in the USA, the community in OSO, a mud slide. 44 died and over 18 acres. They started to request quilts as it was in the late winter. So we got our family together and started sewing. The FEMA center was one block behind our house. So here are pics of the a couple of the FEMA staff receiving the quilts with my granddaughter and grandson and my wife Cathy. We used 4 patch block and 9 patch and pinwheels so we could get them down quick. It is always a blessing to give it away. I chose the colors that are for Lymphoma. She took it to treatment with her every week... It's all done with blocks, so easy. Made with the Quick Curve Ruler and some fun Kaffe Fassett fabrics. By Sharlene_B 14 LIKES | 1565 VIEWS Tree of Birds Another rescue quilt...I seem to be a magnet for others UFO boxes or bags. This top I feel certain was a kit and living where we do I would guess it could have come from Lee Wards in the 1950's. The previous owner had done the embroidery on the birds and pinned scrutiny in place. The quilt top was then stopped in a damp basement with the steel pins still in the cloth. When given to me it had today marks and some brown straining from the paper in which it was wrapped. Lots of lemon juice, sunlight, diluted bleach and removed most of the damage. I then sought the help of another mentor among the group of quilters at the local senior center to learn how to applique the pieces in place. Several years and I am sure millions of stitches the top was finished. The quilts at Rock River Center agreed to hand quilt my treasure and I had opportunity to stitch on it once I in awhile. This one is very special to me. By MyFabricStash 14 LIKES | 1407 VIEWS Storm at Sea I made this quilt for my daughter, and it let her choose the pattern and fabrics. This one was a challenge, but I'm very happy with how it turned out. I used a Storm at Sea ruler by Creative Grids, which helped a lot. By Jillrn1995 28 LIKES | 2463 VIEWS Sweet Sixteen A Nurse friend of mine wanted a bright pink quilt for her daughters 16th birthday in 3 years (that was a year ago). Ann American Patchwork Mag, came in the mail just at that time and I went crazy with color as usual. The name of the Quilt is Bursting with Blooms by Diane Nagle of Peddlecar Quilts. A lot of FMQ and a little hand quilting the center. Is ready for birthday in a couple of years. Am keeping it as my daughter is to visit in a week and I wanted to show it to her. By the way, when first picking out the material my daughter was totally skeptical and asked "Mom are you sure???" No I was not sure but proceeded at a hi rate of speed so I would stay ahead of the doubts. When the doubts caught up with me I firmly smacked them down and went ahead. By kchitwood 9 LIKES | 1244 VIEWS Disappearing pinwheel I watched the video on this quilt and just had to make it and more By FrugalQuilter 32 LIKES | 1291 VIEWS Wallhanging (Piece O' Cake ) I had a blank spot on the wall and had this pattern in mind. One day it all came together. I don't like raw edge applique but in this case, it's what I did. By Happyallthetime 21 LIKES | 1195 VIEWS «12345678...6768»
