I love making quilts for new babies! I have always admired appliqué from afar, but as a new quilter this seemed way out of my league. I decided to start small. I simply cut out the letters freehand and hand stitched them onto the existing quilt (I did this so that the letters can be removed later if the quilt is handed down). I thought it was a bit sloppy, but my friend was very kind and was thrilled to receive the personalized gift for her baby. I also tried my hand at some wavy lines in the quilting. This was stepping out of my box! I am posting the images anyway in hopes of seeing myself progress over time.
