Beautiful Bouquets Memory Quilt #2
Update: I just finished hand binding. I quilted it on my longarm with Nemesh's Feather Grande with cuddle minky as the backing. I saw this "Beautiful Bouquets" pattern in Quilter's World Spring 2020 issue and I knew I wanted to make it as a memory quilts for my friend and another for my daughter.. Last fall an "adopted granddad" for my kids passed away from surgery complications from another bout with cancer. He was a Vietnam Marine Vet, Agent Orange caused many types of cancer. I had worked with ties in quilts before, so when my friend ("adopted grandmother" to my kids) asked if I wanted to make a quilts from her husband's ties, I immediately said yes. She wanted a small quilt. Her's is the second picture. This one is for my daughter. My friend had to wear a tie everyday at work (before he retired), so he took delight in wearing unusual or unique ties, for example Tigger, Mickey Mouse, An Alien, and a reindeer). The flowers in this quilt top contain parts of 27 ties. 27 ties was enough for two quilts. The inside and outside part of the flower are opposites on these two quilts. I used the snowballed tips of the flowers to make half square triangles and put two of them together to make the flying geese border. I added a blue border on this one since my daughter's favorite color is blue. I hope this quilt brings my daughter loving memories of her "Uncle Pat". 79" x 99" 7/6/2020
