This was so much fun. One of these ornaments will be mailed to a person I have never met before. I will be receiving an ornament this week by a person I have never met also. Spreading the holiday cheer has been accomplished by my fellow quilters. By Jkdp101 4 LIKES | 789 VIEWS My very first quilt This is the first quilt I ever made. It is entirely hand pieced. I paid a lady named Ruth Mertz to quilt it on her machine. It took me an entire year and I mostly pieced it during our 5-hour Wednesday staff meeting. I really enjoyed making this quilt. By snagy1953 8 LIKES | 750 VIEWS King Sized Nine Patch This was my first quilt. Mostly hand pieced with the borders and sashing done by machine. By chughes 4 LIKES | 1036 VIEWS Ed's Sunset Someone I know took a photo of a sunset over water at a nearby horse riding recreation area. I tried several methods... including a half-lonestar to get the color display I liked... settled on this modified Bargello (since I did not roll back/ repeat the colors) By Gabz 4 LIKES | 725 VIEWS Patrick's Quilt Several years ago I started quilting and fell in love. However, my love was limited to piecing tops so I ended up with a backlog of 27 unquilted tops. In 2016 I resolved to start sending the larger quilts to a long-arm quilter and attempting to quilt small quilts myself, thus cutting back on my UFOs. One of those quilt tops was one I had made for my youngest son. I sent it to Missouri Star to be quilted and they, as usual, did a beautiful job on the quilting. Because he is partial to St. Patrick's Day, I chose the shamrocks pattern and a green thread. That quilting really pops on the black and multi-colored blocks and especially on the solid black backing. I have totally fallen in love with this quilt and I am anxious to present him with it in October. By SusanP 10 LIKES | 796 VIEWS LYTTMAB! This quilt is for my Mom. I saw this panel and just had to get it. "I love you to the moon and back" is something we say to eachother, and special to us. I didn't have a pattern to follow so I got on the internet and scoured around for star patterns. I chose six that I likes and had never done any of them (I hadn't done the friendship star either). I just mixed and matched them until I loved it. All the fabric was from my stash. The backing is a yellow swirley flannel. I quilted it with black on top and yellow in the bobbin. Then quilted each star separately with yellow top and bottom. It made her cry as I knew it would. It was her birthday yesterday, but her husband is battling cancer and she didn't feel very birthday-like. I knew that she would be spending a lot of time in frigid hospital rooms and at doctors appointments so I made a velco wrap with handles so she can wear it like a bag and take it with her. This quilt took me 3 days to sew and two days to quilt. I have never done one from start to finish that quickly. This one just flowed! I am very happy with it, and the reaction was priceless. I had to improvise in a few places, but it turned out so cuddly and bright! I added some vintage lace for my feminine daughter, who loves roses and rose scented lotion. By rpoole1 4 LIKES | 1015 VIEWS Ninja Star quilt for son's 5th birthday This is the first quilt I ever made. MSQC had a daily deal for Ninja-themed charm packs, and my son was obsessed with Lego Ninjago at the time and about to turn 5. It seemed like the perfect confluence of events to motivate me to take the plunge and try my hand (and machine!) at quilting. Not all my corners line up quite right, and doing the quilting on my home machine was much harder than I expected (so much turning, so little space!), but the most important thing is that my son loves his cute-and-cool-at-the-same-time quilt, and snuggles under it happily ever night. By Cecilia 8 LIKES | 1862 VIEWS "Compass" I saw this design called "Quasar" but the song "Compass" by Lady Antebellum was playing on the radio frequently, so I chose that name instead. One super organizational idea I used, was to keep small pieces in plastic food storage containers that I could stack. I used 3 background fabrics and multiple flowered prints from a variety of sources.
