Falling Charms Quilt
I used to manage Volunteer Services for a local hospital. As is typical of such an organization, we had an auxiliary who raised funds for a variety of projects benefiting the patients in need. I had always promised them a quilt, but never had the time to make good on the promise while I was working. After I retired, they hosted a comedy show and silent auction -- my chance to fulfill my promise. I had purchased a charm pack as a daily deal some months previously. Thought I would never forget the name of the collection, but I did. Learned a lesson, however, right then and there. NEVER buy one charm pack! OMG! I decided I would make the Falling Charms Quilt, but I didn't have near enough fabric and it was pretty much out of print. All I could get was yardage and still it wasn't going to do what I wanted it to. I began the big internet search and probably brought in yardage from a half dozen different vendors. I ended up filling in with solids and then learned another lesson: It's difficult to match reds and blues. Some of the red print charm squares bled into the white when it was washed which was disappointing, but I decided that it added to the "charm." It didn't turn out big -- probably a little bigger than a traditional lap quilt, but I thought it came out cute. Had MSQC quilt it for me with a lasso pattern in navy. I think the board told me they raised approximately $300 for this quilt. Given what I went through to get enough fabric together to match it, it probably would have been cheaper to just right them a check. But, then I wouldn't have that sense of satisfaction knowing I completed something for the good of the community. Could you just keep saying that to me for a while? Please?
