So THAT's What Happened Story Quilt
This quilt started as a pile of neutral and white fabrics, embellished with touches of metallic silver. It sort-of “grew” on its own, without a pattern. When I decided to applique some of Jenny’s Wonky Star blocks onto the starry/snowy border, my granddaughter appeared at my side and exclaimed, “Grandma, the stars match the trees!” I couldn’t resist…..”There’s a story about that,” I said: “Once, there was a grove of young pine trees growing in the mountains. The trees wished and wished that someone would come to decorate them for Christmas, but no one came. A bunch of wonky stars in the sky heard their wishes and felt their disappointment. The stars began to shimmer and shine more brightly than the other stars in the sky. Magic stardust sprinkled onto the snowflakes, which fell to the grove below and covered each young pine tree with its own silvery, patterned blanket that matched the Wonky Stars. And the pine trees were beautiful and happy!” “Aaaah,” nodded the granddaughter, “so THAT’S what happened!”
