QuiltsBy.me

I needed to make a wedding gift for a “purple” bedroom. I wasn’t given the shade or tone of the purple. I found this Pattern on Missouri Star Quilts website, and knew it was the perfect Pattern. I changed the colors, and purchased the Pattern and fabrics from Missouri Star. I’m fairly new to quilting, so I’m pretty happy with how this gift quilt came together!

Summer In The Park

Wanted to make a quilt for my brother and sister-in-law and also use up some jelly rolls I had in my stash. The tutorial by MSQC worked out perfect. I had this pattern on my list of quilt patterns to try. Really like how it turned out and would really like to keep for myself but I know my sister-in-law is going to love it!

Match for 1 Fish 2 Fish Quilt, Jelly Roll Race 2

This is one of 2 quilts that my aunt requested to put into 1 room with 2 beds. It uses the same ombre fabrics that were used for the fish in the other quilt.

One Fish Two Fish

I went to see my Aunt Martie after about 50 years. She is 92. I told her I would be making her a quilt. She likes a lot of color and she lives at Vero Beach, FL. I thought an ocean theme would be perfect. Her and Uncle Henry used to go to Bermuda so I added some Beach huts, ocean shells and creatures, a beach sign that says "Life's Better in Bermuda" and a sailboat. I used fabric margins in the sailboat mast about a Cookie Jar for fun! They absolutely loved the quilt. She also said "Make me 2 and I will pay you." I did not care about the money but she insisted! I have never had anyone with enough moxie to ask for 2 but I thought: "When you are 92, you can ask for WHATEVER you want!" I used ombre fabrics in rainbow colors and a strip race quilt was the other pattern.

May Day Baskets

I fell in love with this pattern when I watched Jenny's tutorial. Then I saw Me & My Sisters Flower Sacks line and knew it would be perfect for this pattern. Thank you Jenny for another beautiful pattern.

Kaleidoscope

Love, love, loved making this one! I saw a similar one online and did my own version. I used a bright jellyroll and all sorts of white scraps. I gave it to a friend leaving NZ to live in Berlin.

Stars & Stripes

I made this quilt for my cousin out of 2 1/2" strip scraps and blue HST scraps. I made my own pattern for this one. I posted pictures of what will happen if you lay your squares on the floor to design check and your sweet fluff ball decides to help

First Double Wedding Ring Quilt III

I did not know the end of this quilt journey would be so emotional. Thank you for all of your sweet comments. I wanted to share the photo my baby brother just posted all the way from Zimbabwe. He travels to Africa about 3 times a year for missions work and this beautiful couple takes care of him while he visits. They have been married almost a year and now they have the quilt in their hands. My heart is full and happy tears keep flowing. I am not an artist, and am fairly new at quilting. My brother and I put ideas together and he counted on me to select prints, colors, and designs. I started adding my own spin on the intertwining flowers and vines. I couldn’t fmq feathers for the quilting design because my brain would not work with my hand motion so I just made up the design as I went along. I was fatigued after an unexpected surgery but had to finish to make a deadline. My husband helped me take photos and fed ex the quilt to Texas so that it could then be put in a suitcase headed overseas. I will never forget this journey and love this couples smile in the photo. I am taking a break. It may be a long break. So thank you everyone on this app for being positive and cheering me on. P

Two little boys

My first quilts, were for my nephews. The first used a MQC tutorial, the Easy 10 minute block, using a layer cake (which I can no longer find the link for). I admit I much prefer the ease of using precuts. The second was a simple strip quilt, using fabric that I bought from a destash page. I added a third to the list, using a combination of the two styles, for my neice. Many years on, the boys still love their quilts.

River Log Cabin with Aboriginal Prints

We lived in Australia for 2 and a half years and I fell in love with Aboriginal art. After a recent visit back to see friends, I decided to put together the Aboriginal fabrics (M&S Textiles) that I had been collecting. I liked the circular nature of the River Log Cabin because circles are used extensively in Aboriginal art. They usually represent campsites in Dreamtime stories, but are also used as the base elements of many paintings. Pathways to water holes or campsites are essential as well and the River Log Cabin had both! I did modify the MSQC pattern by adding blocks to create a 10x10 quilt with 2 borders to get to a queen size. I selected another print for the backing and a "Double Bubble" circular pattern to quilt it. On a side note, one of the first fabrics I collected was a print by Anna Pitjara. I thought the name sounded familiar. When I returned home, I checked a painting we have from Australia and sure enough, it was by Anna Pitjara as well.

White Butterflies

One of the girls (3 sisters) I used to babysit for passed away from breast cancer. One of her sisters told me that whenever she sees a white butterfly, it reminds her of her sister and gives her some peace. I made this quilt for her.
