Lemoyne Star

This quilt was made in response to a Project Quilting challenge in 2014. PQ challenge prompts are given on Sunday and the finished quilt has to be posted by the following Sunday. One week to make a quilt. The challenge was across the sky. I decided to use a variety of blue prints from my stash to make the big stars. The quilt is 72x72 inches. It is hand quilted with perle cotton. (Yes, in one week. Really! It is what the quilt demanded and when the quilt speaks...) I wanted to try the JRR and loved the fabric enough to just let it do it's own thing. Instead of cutting off the 18"tail, I cut one strip in every color in two to stagger the strips when sewed together.

Shay 25

I made this quilt for my oldest granddaughter's 25th birthday which is September 17. I call Shay my "angel" because she healed me from long years of heartache from giving a daughter up for adoption when she was born. When I saw that beautiful baby (Shay), the hole in my heart closed up and I felt whole again...after 30 years! Shay is tall, blonde, gray eyed, and beautiful. I love her with all my heart, just as I do all my grandchildren, but Shay began the healing process. I made up the pattern for this quilt. Because I was so new at quilting when I began this quilt, I started with a pattern, but as it went along and I made so many mistakes, it gradually took on a life of its own. I can't say this resembles the pattern I started out with at all.

Dr. Seuss The Lorax Strip Twist

After purchasing a jelly roll of The Lorax collection from MSQC and needing to make a quilt for my grandson's 4th birthday, I found the Strip Twist pattern free on Bonnie Hunter's quiltville.com website. It made up so quickly and was perfect for a young boy. I purchased the Dr. Seuss Lorax book to go along with the quilt. You can see from his smile that the quilt and book was just what he wanted.

I made this quilt for my dear friend Suzanne to mark her 75th birthday. Suzanne has been my neighbor and friend for 13 years. She has been here for me during some very stressful times and I wanted her to know how much I love and appreciate her. Happy Birthday, Suzanne! The pattern for this quilt is on the cover of the first Mod Block issue from MSQ. I loved this pattern and could hardly wait to find a fabric to do my own version, although I also loved the red one that by Amy Ellis did.

Twisted Sugar Blocks

I loved Amy Gibson in the Craftsy 2012 BOM class. I learned different techniques (paper piecing!) and had fun. So when she started the Sugar Block Club in 2013 I had to join. I finally got around to putting the blocks together in a layout I thought up. I wanted the quilt to be big enough for at least a double bed and I had a few blocks that were smaller than the others. So, I framed them in one color and twisted them in another color. You can't tell which are small now! Then I made a piano key border out of the leftover fabric and added that to the top to make it even bigger and use up all my leftover fabric. This was my first attempt at mitering the border. I love it! The other two photos are tops my sister and our friend made. We all made the same blocks, but with different fabrics and different layouts.
