Hawaiian Quilt - Curved Log Cabin
When I was on vacation in Hawaii this past winter, I found a MARVELOUS fabric store... and well, let's just say I went a little wild with all the wonderful Hawaiian prints available. I ended up having to mail a package home with all the fabric I purchased!
I pondered for a few months just how to make it up, and then it seemed like the curved Log Cabin might be a good way to show off all the wonderful prints. I arranged it in sort of "waves" with the white fabric that was the 'skinny' side of the blocks. I used 2-1/2" strips for the Hawaiian fabric, and 1-1/2" strips for the white fabric.
I found a great batik for the outer border that actually had plumeria flowers in it (what great luck) and that made such a great frame for the quilt.
It was too large (queen size) for my little sewing setup to quilt, so I sent it to good old Missouri Star Quilting company for the long arm treatment. I selected the pattern with little fish and am so excited about how it turned out! Hope you like it, too.
So maybe someday when you're on vacation and see a terrific fabric store you'll indulge yourself and buy a souvenir that is pretty special.
