I just love batiks, especially since there is no wrong side. This is made from a kit. I ordered 2 so I would have enough to make it king-size. I will also have enough fabric for a good-size lap quilt. It was easy to put together but I went a little wonky at times as to the order. But I finally got a mojo going. It took less than a month to piece. It is off to LAQ next week. And yes I did prewash the batiks. I know from experience that the dark blues and teal will run. In fact they all lose colour. It will be backed by another batik in the fish theme. I will post pictures when I get it back.

My first quilt

After learning the basics of quilting in 2013, I decided to make my first full-sized quilt for myself. As soon as I saw the falling charms tutorial by Jenny, I fell in love with it. The best part about the pattern was that there were no intersections, which I find quite intimidating. This is meant to be a bed spread for my king-size bed. I finished it summer of 2015. I used the left-over squares to make a cover for my nightstand and made curtains out of the backing fabric.

Winter Stars

Shades of blue and snowy prints were used to make this quilt. Each block is 12": a different traditional star block takes up the 6" center of a log cabin, with 12" stars sprinkled randomly. The backing is 12" squares of various snowflake prints. Quilting is a 90 degree rainbow shape across each block.

Quilt for bedroom in RV

Well, the quilt in the RV was tattered and loved well beyond its' time. So this has been my project for the last few months. Therapy for me actually, as my husband had a stroke, then open heart surgery, then our youngest son had a stroke, and to top it off our grandchild is ill. I know all the colors in this quilt will make me happy when we wake up in the RV! The brainchild for this quilt was Jenny and the tutorial Flying Geese Log Cabin. And I had all these wonderful batiks waiting to be used, so here is the creation! Thanks Jenny.

Sweet Stars

I made this quilt for my oldest son and daughter in law. They along with my other two sons have given me a trip to MSQC for a retreat experience for Mothers Day for two years now. My first try at a king sized quilt.

Binding Tool Star Quilt

I made this for quilt for a wedding gift. Once I saw the tutorial I wanted to try it. It is made for a king size bed. Once I had the top finished I went to a a quilting store that rents long-arm quilting machines and quilted "Tying the Knot" pattern. It took me approximately two weeks (evenings) to complete the top. Thanks Jenny for all the tutorials, I love them.

Wedding Gift for Kathy

One of my really good friends married and I made this quilt for her and her husband. The pattern for this one was Old Sage Road. It warms my heart how much they loved the quilt.

Layer Cake + Jelly Roll = Quilt!

I made this quilt for mine and my hubbies bed following your tutorial Layer Cake + Jelly Roll = Quilt! Fantastic tutorial to follow. I've only been making quilts for about 3 years now - I always found it to be very daunting not knowing where to start. But one day bit the bullet - I started off small with some baby quilts to get a bit of confidence and went on from there (I'm slightly addicted now). I had every intention of having this quilt quilted professionally because of it's size - but again bit the bullet and did straight line quilting - quick, effective and easy. I admit it is very far from perfect BUT I made it from start to end including the quilting and am very proud of my effort. My hubby even loves it!!!

Irish Chain

I made this quilt for my son and his wife for Christmas 2013. I watched Jenny's video and knew I had to make it. My son's last name is Flynn so Irish Chain was perfect for them.

Penelope

I inherited a zillion squares, all in beige, from an elderly lady who passed. It has been up to me to try to figure out what she envisioned for the final quilt. I "talk" to Penelope whenever I work on the quilt, hoping I am making her happy.

The Black Bento Box

This was the biggest project that I have ever taken on. It is a king size, all batik, bento box pattern. I made it for my own bed. I had it on my bed for one day and the local quilt club ask me to put it into the quilt show in November. Needless to say that quilt is now folded up neatly awaiting the show. My last name is Black so that's where I got the title, also there is a Black and White block for our name. There is a pink special block because I am a cancer survivor. All my quilts have a button sewn on just at random. I like to call that my kiss to remember me by. No two blocks are of the same batik. It took me 5 months to complete, 8 hours on the long arm, and over $600.00 cost total. I just love it and I am super proud of myself.

Bear Paw Quilt

As a beginner, this is my first "real" quilt top. I just finished it as a wedding gift for my daughter who is getting married next week in Kansas City. After buying the precuts (Wooland Summer by Moda) last November, I tried several quilt patterns, but did not like how the fabric looked in any of them. After cutting a lot of different pieces, I just did not like my fabric selection in any of the patterns - I just didn't like the fabric that much. When I saw Jenny's Bear Paw tutorial in February, I thought this would be perfect - I would only use the fabrics in small pieces throughout the quilt. I had no idea what I was doing, much less what I was getting myself into. I received the written pattern in the April Block Magazine, but I was already well into the project. In the end, although I made tons of mistakes, I am pleased to have experienced this adventure. We are traveling from San Antonio to Kansas for the wedding and will be taking the quilt top to MSQ for quilting. When it is completed, my daughter can simply go pick it up at MSQ!
