This quilt I made for my grandbaby

This quilt top has been in my Grandmother’s cedar chest forever! Then it was in my Mom’s stash - forever. I have toyed with the idea of making this pattern but never got around to it. Then Mom showed it to me. I was astounded to see not only was the quilt totally marked for the quilting lines, but the intended binding was all there! I’m guessing that my quilting abilities had progressed enough that Mom was comfortable with allowing me to take it. With a little planning I was able to adapt the intended hand quilting to a continuous machine stitch. Put the binding on and give it back to my Mom to whip the binding down. My Mom was very pleased with the results and has decided to leave it as is with all the pencil markings. She believes it was made by her Grandmother or an Great Aunt.

Checker Hack

Quilt #17. This was a kit from Connecting Threads called "Instructions" by Cheryl Arkison. I can still find it on google by typing in 'instructions quilt cheryl arkison tag' even though it's no longer available on Connecting Threads, but at the time it cost about $35.00 on sale. I didn't want a twin size so redid the pattern to a square throw, discarding the center design panel (which I just couldn't use because it was...not attractive) and using the cut-off yellow for the center instead, hence the name of my quilt: Checker HACK. It took one day in November 2018 to cut pieces and then I waited for our 2019 July quilters retreat to make it. It took less than two days to sew it together. Great retreat project. Finished size, 69"x69", batt is a washable wool/cotton blend and I found the perfect backing on sale at Calico Creations in Mt. Vernon, WA. Quilting pattern is large meander by long-arm quilter Lyn at Camlyn Quilts in Smokey Point, WA. Start to finish the project was 4 (non-sequential) days, including the binding which I sewed on September 20th, 2019. ........... Posted April 1, 2020

Garden Stroll

Update: I finished hand binding this quilt. My friend (Patti Hutchins) free motion quilted daisies on this quilt on her long arm. I just finished piecing this Garden Stroll quilt top from American Patchwork and Quilting June 2013. I fell in love with this pattern when I saw it online. I used fabrics in teal, turquoise, aqua, and burgundy through light pink. I added two additional borders to make it queen size. This quilt is for my mother in law. 95" square

Garden Path Chicken Quilt

A friend asked me to make a quilt for his wife. She raises chickens, so that became my inspiration. Front is whimsical, back is more literal. The Garden Path pattern is from a book called 3 yard quilts. I would call them (3) 1 1/2 yard quilts. Especially if you want a double fold binding (pattern called for single fold 1 1/2" binding) and I was an inch short getting the large blue blocks, due to a large selvage on the fabric. it made a nice size quilt, 61 x 42
