I saw this quilt in the background of a quilting tutorial for another item. It intrigued me. Reminded of my Great Grandmother's quilts which were made from bits of old clothing we had outgrown. I had not wanted to make a scrap quilt but for some reason this one called to me. In a couple of weeks the teacher actually gave the instructions for the quilt and I got out my scraps (I had actually threw out a trash bag full only a few months earlier) and got to sewing. My husband claimed it right away. I had been trying to get him to take one of the other quilts for months but he never wanted one until he saw this one right after I put the binding on. It reminded him of his own Granny's quilts.

Batiks Gone Wild

I made this quilt for one of my sister-in-laws. She picked the pattern. I incorporated more greens in the quilt as it is her favorite color. Top is batiks surrounded by Kona Cotton black. The back is flannel - Timeless Treasures Jazz green.

Linus Project Quilt Throw

The Linus Project in Plano had this quilt kit at a quilt show my sisters and I went to last fall. They furnish everything including fabric and pattern and volunteers put them together. Then they are distributed to give to kids in distress at schools, etc. It's a wonderful program. We all picked out a kit to sew for them. We finally got around to piecing this together and finishing it.

Van Gogh Irises

I just love the colors in this line of fabric from the Van Gogh museum. This is what we snuggle under to watch TV. I used the panel, a charm pack, and a bundle of fat quarters and just kind of made it up as I went along. The backing is yardage from the same line.

Castlewood Seven Eights

My quilting shop offered a fun class called Seven Eights which highlighted using a precut jelly roll. I chose Castlewood designed by Jan Patek from Moda Fabrics. By stitching a patchwork border with the leftover pieces from the same line, I was able to make a larger quilt. I decided that using straight line quilting on a diagonal emphasized the design of the quilt. I also used a variety of decorative stitches on my sewing machine to quilt some of the plain sections in the patchwork border. It is a versatile pattern that I would probably try again but in another colorway.
