Disappearing Pinwheel Quilt

I watched this tutorial and also bought the issue of Block. I learned I had to starch my fabric if I was going to make bias HST blocks and have them all be the same size. I used the Eleanor Burns pillow case quilt method instead of making the traditional sandwich because I wanted to get this done, but I think a brown border with an unbleached muslin binding or at least a brown binding would have made the pinwheels "pop" a bit more. This is the first quilt I machine quilted on my home sewing machine.

Grandmother's Fan Ooopps

I planned on making a Grandmother's Fan from the stash my MIL gave me -- and I thought I was being so thrifty as I pieced the fan to the arched edge piece and to the fan base. What I forgot is that I needed to make the base of the fan a contrasting color for it to show up when the squares were placed next to each other. Live and learn! I saw a baby quilt at a friend's house and decided to make my first piano key border. That was a labor of love, but I like the end result nonetheless. I never claimed to be perfect. This is the biggest quilt I have machined quilted on my home sewing machine. Thank you Leah Day and Lori Kennedy for the inspiration and tips!

Phillips Fiber Arts Mariners Compass adapted

I bought the templates for a Mariner's Compass from Phillips Fiber Arts. When I actually made the compass, it was not what I had expected: it is folded and results in several layers of fabric instead of a truly pieced project. Oh well -- my DIL likes it as it is in her colors.

My Mother's Cross Stitched Quilt top Quilted

My mother died and left this quilt top. Unfortunately, it was one of those blue stenciled jobs, and someone had ironed the top without realizing that that would set the stencil forever! Regardless, I took the top and finished the quilt -- if it's not done, no one will ever use it! It is now in the guest room which we use when visiting at my in-laws.
