I make Quilts of Honor for any veteran. I also make blankets for Project Linus. I also used Quilt Making in the classroom to help reluctant readers understand that there are ways they can use good reading skills in their daily lives. I've been making lap quilts since 2002 in the classroom as well as Project Linus blankets since 2004.

Windmills At Night
I was trying to find an unusual quilt pattern for someone who loves Red as their favorite color. I Googled Red Quilts and found this photo. This lap quilt was to be made for this person who has taken care of me during my adventure with cancer.

Disappearing Hour Glass
I am in the process of creating 16 lap quilts for the healthcare people who have been treating me during my trip with cancer. I asked these individuals what their favorite color(s) was/are and was surprised at the resulting responses. Several love purple, a few love blues, one loves cranberry, another burgundy and one loves red. When I saw Jenny's Disappearing Hour tutorial I fell in love with the design. However, she used white cotton as her popping background color and I chose solid black. Once I completed the lap quilt I realized my mistake in my background material color. I think it is very dramatic.

Purple Fancy
This quilt is a result of my love for the color purple. I made it once for a good retired teacher friend and now have made one for one of my VA cancer caregivers. It is basically an altered pinwheel design.

Friendship Quilt
My sister-in-law asked me to do a lap quilt for the mother of the girl who used to babysit her 3 children. She told me the mother liked blue. I decided to make a friendship star quilt in blues for this woman. This woman has stage 4 breast cancer and lives alone. Since I, too, have treatable breast cancer, I was happy to do this project.

When my sewing table starts to turn invisible under piles of leftover fabric, its time to sort. Yardage, fat quarters, charms or 2.5" squares. This quilt is from those charms and 2.5" squares. Each color reminds me of a previous project.

Color quilt
My daughter asked for a quilt with "all the colors, except pink." She also requested triangles. She picked all of the fabrics. I made a silly math error at the beginning, and the triangles are half as big as intended. This one took me a lot longer than anticipated!

Fence Rail & Nine Patch Quilt
This is another one of Jenny Doan's tutorials I had to make. I had so many nine patches left over from the Irish Chain Quilt and the background pieces already cut that I used them to make this quilt. I only had to make the fence rail pieces and the borders. I still have so many nine patches and 6 1/2" background pieces already cut that I could probably make another one of these! Haven't quilted it yet. Waiting on the Westalee ruler foot and sampler templates to arrive so I can do something other than stitch in the ditch.

Look and Learn Pinwheels
A wonderful giving person donated at least 15 fat quarters to our chapter to make quilts. The fabric is from the Look and Learn collection by American Jane for Moda. I was lucky to get most of the fat quarters and this is the first one I made.

Summer in the Park
I found Jenny's tutorials when I was homeless last year and they gave me such inspiration! This design was one I loved and when I found the fabric I knew it was the one. It was also the first quilt I made when I had a home again, though it took me a few months to finish it off. I came across the fabric in a little upstairs shop and it had been put behind for another customer. THe owner told me that if it hadn't been collected by the following Monday I could have it. So come Monday morning I flew back down and luckily for me it was still there! I was now the proud owner of my very first jellyroll - the Cattails and Clover range by Kansas Trouble who I absolutely adore
