4th of July Wall Hanging

Spring from the Attic Window Quilt

After watching Jenny's Attic Window with a Panel tutorial, I decided to conquer a panel that was not cooperating with any other pattern I wanted to use. The panel I used had 32 floral squares that had a frame around each one. However, the frame was NOT SQUARE, which made it impossible to use in any standard block. So I finally had to fussy cut the center of each square and make each floral part square. From there, I followed Jenny's instructions and came up with my version of seeing Spring from the Attic Window. I made this for my friend, Patti, who lives in New Jersey, so that when she gets snowed in, she can look through THIS Attic Window and see that Spring is still coming!

It's All an Illusion Quilt

I made this quilt for my daughter, Colleen's 32nd birthday. She loves guitars, so I decided to modify Jenny's Illusion quilt to show more of the fabric by leaving the 10" blocks whole. Had to increase the size of the "shadow" portions though. (After sewing all the blocks with the original size shadow, it just wasn't working.)

Stairway to Heaven

When he was younger and still living at home, my son and I used to enjoy playing music together. He played guitar and I played the keyboard. Our favorite song was Stairway to Heaven. He asked me if I would make a wall hanging for him and so to honor his 49th birthday I made this for him as a memorial to those great musical times we had together. I love to quilt, really love whole cloth quilts and am mesmerized by Zentangle. This is a combination of all three and a lot of love. I have to say, stitching with heavy black thread on cream fabric was more than a little daunting!

Time to Smell the Roses

This 40" x 40" whole cloth quilt was created in commemoration of my retirement at the end of April this year. I love whole cloth quilts; they remind me of fluffy frosting! I utiilzed a couple of stencils that I have had for awhile that I previously didn't know what to do with. I also incorporated machine embroidery in the center medallion. Embroidery was done with Mettler Polysheen thread, the inner border was stitched with Essential Pro poly 40 wt thread and the balance was stitched with So Fine 50 wt thread. This is the first time I added "bling" to a quilt but felt since it was a celebration quilt, bling was quite okay! As a final touch, I added piping to the binding in the same golden shade as the thread used in the embroidery and the inner border to tie everything together.

Friendship Star Baby Quilt

I saw this version of Friendship Star as a pillow on the internet. I love how the stars fit together to make pinwheels where they touch. The binding has a flange. I had never tried it before, but it is really easy to do.

Summer in the Park

I made this quilt for my daughter. She picked the pattern and material. I cut my own fabric but followed the Summer in the Park tutorial from MSQC. The front is batiks except the white background. The back has flannel on it. It came out really bright and beautiful. She loves it.

Accidental Tree Skirt

This is one pattern I hadn't really thought of for a Christmas tree skirt. In making another skirt I errored in adjusting the size and it was way too big. I totally dis-assembled it and trimmed each block down to size. The cut off pieces were almost the right size for the binding tool star. I couldn't bear to waste the fabric, so I played with it a bit and this is what I came up with.This skirt is 60". I've never added machine embroidery before either but the light areas were so large it just seemed they needed it

I wanted to make a really special quilt for my daughter's ex-boyfriend (boyfriend at the time I made it). He had acquired his captain's license. This is what I gave him for Christmas in honor of his achievement. I think the Mariner's Star was quite appropriate.

Wedding Quilt for friends

i have a dear friend who's daughter will marry in August. They are lovers of nature so I thought a Bear Paw quilt was appropriate. I googled "Images" online and found this design. It is an easy layout to copy. I used scraps and stash in the colors the bride and groom are using in their home based on an image of a rug that is in their house. The bride's mom said the colors in the rug are carried throughout their home. This quilt is probably about twin-size. The Bear Paw block measures 10" finished.
