I have been a quilter for over 40 years, but since my hubby retired, it has been my obsession and sanity. My favorites are wall hangings. I have run out of room to display, so I give them to family. I love working with colors, and am always on the hunt for "that special fabric".

Schnog the Terrible
I love dragons, and set out to make a fierce one. First I had to find dragon-skin like fabric. Then I drew him out on paper, then just started putting down fabrics (using lots of batiks), starting with his head. When done, I did machine raw edge applique on all the pieces. I added two borders. Last of all-I gave him a glass eye.

Love Notes from Mom
My daughter is a writer, and loves old typewriters and coffee. I made this little wallhanging for her 40th birthday. I used the love notes pattern, and found some "All My Heart" fabric by Clothworks, but tweaked the pattern a bit. It was lots of fun. I found a cute little typewriter at Hallmark store to go with it.

Love Letters
I made this for my daughter, who is a writer. She loves old typewriters. I found this pattern by Jenny, and adapted it to my own. I machine quilted it in straight lines. Then I found a cute little ceramic typewriter note pad holder to go with it.

Cats 'n Baskets
I had saved up basket weave print fabrics for over 18 years, and finally decided to make a large quilt. Baskets are a combination of hand and machine pieced over many years. I added machine quilted appliqued black cats because I love cats, then used a cotton bole fabric for the border (because I live in Alabama and cotton is our "snow").

Spirit Dweller II
This is #6 in a series of original portrait quilts of women. It features a Native American woman with long hair and cliff dwellings hidden inside. All cotton fabrics from various sources, including MSQC. Raw edge applique. Size of this top is 45" x 51". I have used Inktense pencils to accentuate the buildings and for shading. Embroidery floss used for tiny ladders. Based loosely on Bandelier National Monument. Side panels depict Indian rugs, corners are "Oho de dios" or God's Eye blocks. Pineapple blocks on border.

Oh Deer
Love how this turned out. Lots of time but well worth it. My sister and I cut out the deer with the silhouette cutter. Appliquéd them on with machine. Such bright fun material. Soft orange flannel on the back.

Sunlit Applique Orange Peel Quilt
This orange peel quilt brightens a winter day. Made from an assortment of orange, yellow and black fabrics, I used white solid yardage, fusible interfacing and Jenny Doan's football template from her tutorial on 2/11/2015. Her applique technique was one I had been planning to try. It's a great pattern for putting together because you don't need sashing strips between blocks. You can also experiment with different layouts. I chose to anchor the dark peels in the corners and selected points. With the leftover fabrics, I fashioned a pieced backing. Lastly, I sewed decorative stitches in the corners, then quilted ruffled flowers in the white spaces and leafy vines in the border. It was a fun and satisfying project to complete.
