clpb1950's likes Gem Illusions My granddaughter is such a gem that I purchased the 10 Carat Gems Layer Cake set by Wilmington for her Ball State University graduation quilt. It will sparkle in any place she chooses to use it. I used the tutorial by Jenny in cutting and sewing but did make the quilt much larger than Jenny's. Erin loves optical illusions and fell in love with the quilt as soon as I gave it to her. It was backed with a coordinating Wilmington wide backing and the binding was made of strips of left over fabric sewing together to make the colorful, but matching binding. A fine local long arm quilting friend did the quilting for me. I love it. I used a layer cake from MSQC. It was easy to put together and I had it quilted with silver thread! When my son saw that one he requested a queen-sized quilt like it only in Southwest colors. I saw Sue Bouchard demonstrate this Modern Migration quilt on YouTube, and I fell in love with it. Last year while in Paducah I stopped by Eleanor Burns' shop and saw the pattern and bought it. I had the slate grey fabric laying around that I just couldn't figure out a purpose for and decided to try it with this pattern. I used batiks for the flying geese and it's got a nice soft flannel backing so Hubby can cuddle with it while watching TV. By SheepFarmer 17 LIKES | 1178 VIEWS Rag Rug More ways to use scraps.
