One of my New Year's resolutions this year was to USE the templates that I have. So I decided to use the 5-inch half-hexi template and make a hexi quilt. I started with the Lucky Penny quilt pattern and modified it a bit. I was going for a "hippie" look (go flower power!) with the wild "psychedelic" colors (Kaffe Fassett Sunbeam plus kiwi green yardage). The Sunbeam charm pack also had some darker green squares, so I used those sewing the half-hexis back-to-back to give it sort of a butterfly look. I don't have any borders added yet, but this is what the top looks like so far. It's so bright, maybe I should have taken the photo in the shade. LOL

The D9P is by far one of my favorite quilts to make. It's just so easy and super fun to put together. I made this lap quilt using a Larkspur Layer Cake by 3 Sisters for Moda. I bought the layer cake as a DD last year and couldn't figure out what to do with it. I wasn't even sure I liked the colors. One weekend I was bored and decided to grab the layer cake and make a D9P. I ended up really loving the colors. I also saw a tutorial on making a narrow flange, so I figured I'd try that on this quilt. The flannel backing was purchased last year from a store that had gone out of business and it just happened to match the colors in the quilt. I had my local long-armer quilt it for me. For beginner quilters, the D9P is definitely a winner.

I made this quilt for my niece who loves cats. The fabric was a layer cake called Wild Cats from RJR which has cute cat faces and paws. She loved her quilt. This was the very first quilt I had ever made. I made this as a very new quilter after viewing Jenny's tutorial on the falling charms pattern. Fun and easy quilt to make. It was quilted by a local person who has a longarm machine and quilts very inexpensively (mostly charity quilts). On the back of the quilt, I included photos of my cat that my niece fell in love with. Also included is a drawing of my cat that my niece drew when she was four years old.
