I used a bunch of pink and purple strips and left over binding from my scrap bin to make this cute jelly roll rug for my daughters room. I used the pattern from Roma Quilts and the precut batting rolls by Bosal to create this project. It was really fun. I think I might use the same concept to make some scrappy placemats.

Jelly Roll Race

This is an Amy Butler “Night Music” jelly roll with some coordinating modern solid squares put in every half a strip. It’s backed in Tula Pink’s “Free Fall” backing, and free motion quilted with an all over swirl meander on my domestic machine. The binding is Moda’s “Grunge hits the Spot” in dark purple.

Spectrum Triangle

I wanted to experiment with solids across the color spectrum. I also wanted to do a triangle quilt and challenge myself. I got a solid jelly roll and ended up using one and then part of another. It was the Kona modern brights roll. I left out the pinks and purples. I made up the pattern and my 10 year old daughter helped me with the final layout. I quilted it at home with my walking foot using diagonal straight lines spaced 1” apart. I used the left over strips to make a rainbow binding. I think I might be brave enough to enter it in the San Diego Quilt Show in September.

Composition Jelly Roll

My husband wanted a quilt to call his own. I wanted to make him something masculine, and not too complicated looking. I feel in love with the Composition line by Moda and watched the tutorial on the Jelly Roll Race. It seemed a perfect fit for a quilt for my husband. I used the same fabric line for the backing and binding, and just did stitch in the ditch for the quilting. It's snuggly and soft and just right.
