For the love of a homesick Irish man
My youngest niece 'suggested' that I make a 'hug-quilt' for her boyfriend as he was feeling a little homesick and missing his mum. He has been at university here in England and is now looking for his first job. The said homesick young Irish man is a 6 foot 3 inches tall rugby player!! What I don't think he knows is that a 'hug-quilt' has a very special meaning for my niece and I. It refers to the second quilt I made for her (she has several and has issued me with a restraining order!) when she was about 15 years old and facing extensive reconstuctive plastic surgery and very worried about it. Her hug-quilt has a special place in both ourhearts. In asking for one for her boyfriend I realised just what this young man means to her. So what could I do but make a quilt using a 'Dear Mum' jelly roll from Robin Pickens for Moda and the single Irish Chain pattern. The background fabric is a Kona Solid in 'Shale' which has a lovely green sheen to it. The wadding I've used is Quilter's Dream Puff.
