Star of Wonder

My mother in law has a black and white kitchen. While in Wenatchee during our family vacation in Chelan, I like to visit the LQS's. They had just held a class on making this star. The pattern was free (It is on Moda Bake Shop) as long as I bought the supplies. Oh, gee, I must buy 6 fat quarters? Shucky darn! So I later discover the copied pattern was incomplete and confusing, so I did what I do, made it my way. Now I see what the pattern needed, but I am happy with it nevertheless. I gave it to her for her 80th birthday and everyone admired it. She wasn't sure what to do with it so I mentioned some possibilities like a trivet, potholder, candle mat, etc., but she says it is too pretty to cover up.
