chevron baby quilt

chevron baby quilt

My step daughter is having her first baby, a boy. Her shower/nursery theme was golf as her husband and father are avid golfers. I looked and looked for juvenile golf themed fabric or panels, the selection was very limited. I settled on scattered golf balls for the back ground and added chevron fussy cut fabric for the sashing. This idea came from the book: Stripe Quilts Made Modern by Lauren Plamer. The little golf carts (pattern on Etsy) are my first attempt at paper piecing. I had to shrink the pattern by 20% to get them to fit the 5 inch squares and then add fabric to put them on point. I was in a time crunch so only three made it on the quilt, I think it would have been better to add more little carts but time did not permit. For the quilting I just outlined the golf balls and chevrons, echoed the carts, and added some lines with rulers in the boarder. My favorite element of the quilt is the chevron binding, I think it really enhances the the quilt. I used quilters dream wool/poly batting and white minky on the back. Wool batting is my new favorite. Provides a lot of dimension and keeps the quilt soft so it drapes well.
