southwest jewel quilt

This pattern from Angela Walters is called "Gemstone". It was super fast to piece. The quilting, also inspired by Angela Walters, took forever. I used a 40 weight beige cotton thread for most of the quilting. In the navy areas I went with navy thread. There is lots of ruler work, pearls and swirls. The batting is quilters dream wool and it is backed with off white Minky. It finished at 55x68. I really like this pattern and would like to try it on another color way next time. I am still looking for inspiration for that. It would also be fun to try to convert it to a larger bedsize. Maybe "fun" is not the right word for that..... It is a gift for my step son and should look nice in his Tucson home.
