The Boring Bear
I recently purchased a longarm machine, so i want to practice free motion quilting with it . My son asked me to make a Queen size quilt for his bed. He wanted solid green for the top, and Woolies grey flannel for the back. I tried to talk him into allowing me to be creative with the quilting design, but he didn’t want it to look like a “craft project”. He even searched for pantographs online and requested Geometric Diamonds by Christy Dillon. I warned him that I was probably not going to be able to quilt consistent straight lines because I’m new at this. He was fine with that. I tried to talk him into allowing me to use a variegated thread to jazz it up a bit, but he preferred a thin grey thread which would be less noticeable. This was my first project with Woolies flannel. It is very soft and much nicer than traditional flannel. It weighs more too. My quilting is wonky as predicted. Washing it twice has made it appear less wonky. I was surprised that it ended up being very heavy. I named it the Boring Bear as I wrestled with the size and weight of it as I attached the binding. He is very pleased with how it turned out, and now he’s asking for matching pillow shams.
