Ayden's pokemon
I happened to be on a site and stumbled upon some pokemon fabric, just as my son walks in and sees the fabric. He excitedly asks "are you making me a blanket"! How can I deny that? Not like a twin size isn't ambitious for someone who has no experience sewing or quilting, besides the 3 baby/lap quilts I've already done. So I went on to find a Robert Kaufman fat quarter bundle which was less than the yardage, and included a panel, " Yay included panel, even better", right? I sat on this little bundle for a few days before gaining the courage to cut it up, it was after all the most expensive fabric I have purchased to date, and a real designer at that. Thankfully Ayden only wanted squares, thank you simple child! I asked him how big the squares should be, got a ruler and made my first, second etc. Cuts. But that panel!!!! Why was it not close to some semblance of straight? My rough measurements no longer add up to what I figured for overall size. Almost giving up, I soon learned panels are the dream killer in quilting. I was not alone! A few tweaks made, by no means was I winning a contest, but gaining the admiration of a child. Who watched me go from this little bundle of characters, to a quilt to keep him cozy and wrapped in love.
