Tokyo Train Squares

I wanted to make a quilt fast for a fundraiser for a husky rescue. I had a layer cake and no time to go out and find matching or complimentary fabric for borders. I had seen a picture of a quilt that I liked on Pinterest and figured I could use it to figure out a simple pattern I could sew up quickly. I ended up putting two layer cake squares together and cutting 2-1/2" from opposite sides of the layer cake square. Then cutting 2-1/2" from the other opposing sides. I swapped out the centers and sewed it back together. I trimmed it to a square and sewed all the squares together in a 6 x 7 layout. I had this beautiful black floral fabric I had been saving that matched perfectly. I quilted it in an overall meander. The quilt was donated May 2017.
