My Very First Ever Completed Quilt Top
I had planned on this being a lot easier than it actually was. I am very surprised that it worked because about halfway through I wasn’t so sure, and I was about to start over completely. I began with the Monster Scribbles II panel, cutting out the individual images and piecing them together with some coordinating orange stripe fabric, and black bats. But, as it turns out, with this panel, no line is straight and no corner is square. Hence my major dilemma. After some help, and a lot of ironing and steaming, I was finally able to finish the top. Now I need to machine quilt it and bind it, and just hope I can get it all done before Halloween! I thought I was starting my first Quilting project with a super easy piece, but I think it was much harder than I should have done for my first try. Luckily my second quilt topper attempt is going much smoother. I am hoping that top will finish nicely on all sides, but we have yet to see… More on that later. For now, Oooh and Aaaah at my Little Monster and my first Quilt Top for him. - October 2012 So… I missed Halloween, or maybe I’m just early for the 2013 Halloween season. I started this much earlier than Halloween with every intention of finishing it at least a couple weeks before so my little guy could enjoy it. But I have the worst luck with class signup at my local store – almost every class I sign up for gets canceled due to low enrollment (just me) or one class they changed the time and date on me. And those 2 classes happened to be the machine quilting and binding classes – the two that I needed to finish this. Well – I worked my way through it on my own. Yes, I realize there is a lot to be desired, and I imagine over time I will need to go back and fix some things, but I did it. All by myself. It wasn’t easy, but for now it’s finished. And the best part – my little guy loves it, he’s slept with it every night since I gave it to him. - January 2013
