Magical Colorado Family Times quilt
Each year at the Colorado State Fair the Pueblo Sewing Center sponsors a contest with generous cash prizes. With the theme for 2016 of "The Magic of Colorado" I made a quilt capturing favorite family activities and places in our 47 years in the state. It was a trip through memory lane finding and/or taking pictures to use. 3 photos of our family, each in a different decade, were transferred to muslin and included. Others were interpreted in fabrics and edge-stitched onto royal blue over batting squares. Details of each activity and place were back-stitched on red or yellow cross-stitch fabric; 125 novelty buttons were sewn onto the outer borders. This quilt is based on the Colorado Log Cabin Star pattern, with the stars in white around each square. The colors of Colorado's state flag are red, white, blue, and yellow. The quilt didn't win any prizes but is a winner to me because of wonderful memories. [The photo would not load upright, even in the simplified method.]
