Surprise Birthday Quilt

Through the years I had heard that the birthday of a good friend, Mauna, is Halloween, so I thought it would be fun to have a potluck luncheon on that day. She said she could come; the others knew it was to celebrate Mauna's birthday as a surprise. A friend said that Mauna's birthday is actually November 1st, so after everyone arrived, we told her that it was in her honor and asked for her to tell us the true story of her birthday. She was born at 12:01am November 1; her parents, wanting her to have the benefits of school, said that her birthday was October 31, that being the day before the cut-off for school. The Halloween lap-sized quilt was made before I was surprised by the full story and was a surprise for her. The high-quality flannels from MSQ were wonderful to work with and so snuggly.
