Flying High Kites Quilt

Flying High Kites Quilt

I had watched a video of Jenny Doan using a template, I think it was a square, and instead of cutting it to fit with the surrounding fabric, she folded it over and stitched it. She used this method to create a quilt pattern. I tried a variation of this method-using the kite template from Missouri Star. I used left over charm squares from a Camille Roskelley collection and white solid 10 inch squares and incased the kite pieces on all 4 sides. I then squared up the misshapen pieces. I have been trying to finish up some of my UFOs and I found these while mulling over ideas for a baby quilt. I decided to put the "kites" on together and then run strands downward, like kite strings. The border I used was some left over piano key strips from another project and I put flannel on the back from an old sewing project of my mother's.
