Ang's Quilt

My grandmother was a sewer. My great-grandmother was a sewer. Both made quilts, as well as, clothing. My mother was more into crafty things, which included embroidery. I was blessed to have these influences in my life. I made my first quilt in 2004. My daughter graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2000 and after playing soccer for the school, she had accumulated quite an assortment of t-shirts. These were such special years of her life: choosing to leave Texas for a scholarship opportunity to play soccer, forging new friendships that would last a lifetime, being on her own for the first time, etc. I wanted to make something for her that she would always remember. So I found "how to" hints on the internet and began cutting and piecing. I even added a photo that my husband created with one of the action photos I had taken of my daughter superimposed over the university logo. My mom was so proud that one of her daughters would carry on the "sewing" tradition. I brought the finished top to show her at Thanksgiving in 2004 even though it had not been quilted yet. You see, my mom had been diagnosed with lung cancer in 2000 and despite chemotherapy and surgery, there wasn't much time left. I will never forget her praise and knowing that I had made her proud. She never saw the finished quilt. My quilter left me a voice mail that the quilt was ready the same day my Mom passed away. My daughter proudly displays her quilt in her home and I proudly share my photos with everyone of this special quilt. I have enclosed a photo of this special quilt with you as well.
