Pelican

My mother-in-law collects pelicans. This is for her. A paper-pieced pelican surrounded by ocean waves. The triangles are pretty tricky because the good measurement is the 2-inch hypotenuse (long side); luckily a had a specialized template. Made a black french knot for the eye, and then chained stitched around with yellow floss. It was hard to embroider due to the folded back fabric from the paper-piecing. Stitched in the ditch with variegated blue (ocean) and clear thread. 12-2012
