Phil's Tee-SHirt QUilt

Phil's Tee-SHirt QUilt

My brother Phil is a runner and has collected lots of T-shirts from marathons and 10K runs. The blocks are lined with knit interfacing set perpendicular. I cut out a square larger than the tee-shirt design, iron on the interfacing with the stretch in the cross-direction to the tee-shirt stretch, and iron it on. Then I trim the square to the correct size. In this pattern, I have used wonky triangles to set the tee-shirts off kilter. Several blocks completed. The rest of the cut-outs are either too big (would have to crop) or are of sponsor products like Pepsi. Been waiting for Mom to send more, but so far no. Maybe we'll pick some up at Christmas time. Fabric: Fusions Mist by Robert Kaufman. Unfortunately am not sure of the specific color, and it comes in so many. I have green and blue. The green may be Olive, or may be Forest (or may be discontinued). I am hoping to get some more to do the borders; perhaps I should get the blue/green mix for contrast and not try to match. Bought 3 more yards of Fusion Mist Olive at Ruth's Stitchery in Colorado Springs. It is maybe not the same, but it is pretty close. The border doesn't have to match exactly anyway. Got to get going on this so that if I need more fabric I can pick it up during the 15th SHop HOp Aug 1-3, 2014. Border: 1 inch grey Mist, 4.5 inch green. Size: 59 x 72 batting: Fairfield Quilter's 80/20 (80% cotton, 20% polyester), twin (72x90) Got it basted, but no reason to try to finish this weekend cuz huz booked carry-on bag, not checked. Nov. 29, 2014: Could bnot find the green (it was under the Bonnie Hunter Grand Illustion Hotel Mystery stacks) so I did the border in grey, sewed it all on today. Done. In time to take with me to L.A. on business trip. May take back Joe's T-shirts bur he said he put them in the attic to make room for Jacob to sleep. Maybe he did the Christmas decorating today and took them down from the attic. He's going to Hawaii tomorrow, maybe he's going to wait to do the decorating. Oct. 12, 2014 - finished wavy quilting. Cannot find the rest of the green border fabric, I'm sure there must be some more somewhere, maybe I'll have to use the silver.
