My 9 year old grandson decided he needed a "grown up" quilt and he wanted it to be a "fish" quilt. We looked at as many fabrics I could find that had fish, but he only wanted certain fresh water fish, which made the task more difficult. we finally settled on a fish themed panel with a couple of fish fabrics. I had no idea what to do with this fabric until I stumbled on Jenny's "Summer School" quilt tutorial. Hallelujah! I began to design my grandson's fish swimming around the center panel. He loved the way his quilt turned out. He also requested fish themed flannel fabric for the backing so he could cuddle with his quilt. As much time as I put into making more than 50 fish squares, and custom quilting it to death, I feel confident that he can take his quilt to college. It is a unique heirloom quilt, for sure.
