Michelle’s Prayer Quilt

Michelle’s Prayer Quilt

Hello Quilters, My daughter just found out a friend of hers was diagnosed with breast cancer and will have surgery next week. Marsha bought this fabric for me to hurry & make a prayer quilt for Michelle. For those of you that never heard of these quilts, I will explain. The layers, top, batting and backing are held together with short pieces of 6 stand floss like DMC, spaced about 4-5 inches apart. For each piece of DMC floss, a prayer is said and the strand is tied into knots, that are then clipped short, so no strings hanging. The quilt is then presented to the recipient and told each knot represents a prayer was said for her/him. Michelle’s favorite color is purple. The top is simple squares cut 4 1/2 inches. All fabrics were purchased at Walmart and are Waverly and David Textiles, so nice fabrics. If you can remember Michelle in your prayers, as they are aggressively treating her, removing both breasts. Chemo and cancer patients in general are usually cold, so I made the quilt longer than the usual lap size prayer quilts. She should be able to tuck over her shoulders and cover her feet well. I ran out of floss, so I pinned until Marsha brought me more. I forgot to re-take another photo once we sewed it in so you may still see pins in this picture. There was enough fabric to make her a pillowcase to carry her quilt into treatment or use with a pillow. Thank you for prayers, for looking too and I hope you all have a nice day. Toogie
