My First Real Quilt
I made my first real quilt after I took a quilting class a few years ago. I had made 2 quilts prior to this, but I made those with just a ruler/tape measure and scissors; old school technology! They turned out OK and I learned a lot along the way, but I was overjoyed to learn about rotary cutters, cutting mats and quilting rulers. What a timesaver these items are. Our class taught us simple blocks and how to do English Paper piecing. I incorporated those techniques into my first real quilt that I made for my son. I used vintage inspired fabrics using a cowboy-pajama theme and made blocks of paper pieced hearts (that turned into a 4 leaf clover for good luck) and paper pieced a 3D likeness of our dog Kirby, among other things he liked. I think it turned out well and motivated me to keep on quilting and sewing. I haven't looked back since.
