I really loved the "Little Black Dress" collection by Moda and searched for the right quilt. Moda made a big star quilt with this fabric using the LaMoyne Star. I made mine with 5" squares for the main block and a matching jelly roll for the snowballed squares. I had it quilted by Missouri Star Quilt Company!

Found the cowboy fabric on line a decided it would be the perfect centerpiece for a quilt I wanted to make for a friend whose into square dancing. The star block is the "Nifty Star" from Celia Eddy's The Quilter's Block Bible (Quarto, 2003). It was fun shopping for other western themed fabrics (I probably bought enough to make another ten cowboy quilts.)

This quilt, when finished will be for the family cabin we are building in the mountains. I need to add the border yet, but need your advice. I was considering the dark red windowpane flannel for the border. Should I use the same backing as the border? Can you use flannel as a backing on a quilt or is that too heavy? What about flannel for the binding? Thanks in advance!
