Deer and Bear Tracks

Deer and Bear Tracks

I made this quilt for our older son who was so interested in deer when he was ten, that I used the bear claw blocks and designed deer print blocks to tell a little story. Starting at the left side: the bear is wandering around, looking for something to eat but sees only beetles and dragonflies. (2nd column) The deer is walking around in the forest and startles rabbits. (3rd column) The bear is feeling more "bearish." (4th column) The bear startles some people and then finds the deer. (5th column) The deer runs in the forest and is camouflaged (the prints are visible in the photo because of the sun behind them; in real life the prints are hardly distinguishable from the background). (6th column) The bear gives up on the deer, goes to the river and eats fish! My original design, single bed size, hand stitched, tied, made in 2004.
