Baby dinos

With one nephew getting his big boy quilt, I also wanted to make the new arrival a quilt. I fell in love with the baby dinosaur fabric. I paired it with a solid kelly green, and used the disappearing four patch technique. I quilted a little heart motif into it. I really love the final effect.

Spiderman's web

My 2 year old nephew is about to become a big brother, so he needed a big boy quilt. His mom sent me a picture of him, wearing spiderman pjs, and rocking yellow rainboots. I took inspiration from that and created this quilt. I found a patter guideline on All People Quilt, and created red and yellow pinwheels. I then alternated them with the spiderman fabric I had found. I quilted it all over with a spiderweb pattern, that really sets off the pinwheels. I had enough fabric left over to make a matching pillowcase.

Teacakes for my sister

My sister loves polka dots, so when I found a layer cake of swiss dot fabrics, I reserved those for her. Then I saw Jenny's tutorial on the Tea Cake pattern - it was just perfect for the layer cake. I put a larger polka dot as the backing just for fun. "Make a Tea Cakes quilt with Jenny"

Blue bargello

I saw Jenny's tutorial and decided to try making a Bargello quilt. It was pretty simple using the tube method. It did take some time to match the seams, but other than that, it was an easy teachnique for a stunning result.

Hazel the Hedgehog

I purchased a kit and immediately put this together. With big blocks, this really was a quick pattern (by Elizabeth Hartman). I quilted it with a zig zag pattern, to echo the hedgehog spikes. My great nephew claimed it when he saw it.

Good Times Ruby Rue

I wanted to complete a challenge to make a red quilt (using reds and neutrals) to celebrate the ruby anniversary of my local guild. I found this kit and thought it fit the bill perfectly. The pineapple effect was achieved by adding strips to an initial square, and then snowballing the corners before adding another row of strips.

Little Ruby

I had a quilt kit for a large ruby red quilt that I finished off. When I was done, I had a lot of fabric scraps leftover. I wanted to keep the scraps together, at least for one more quilt. I took some foundation paper squares I had left from a different project and randomly placed fabric on them. I put a strip of black down the long side of the triangle and paired them up. I then sashed each square and put it within a border. Even the backing fabric for this quilt is left over from the original! It's a throw size, but looks pretty good.

Mexican Star Dance

I picked this pattern by Southwind Designs to make a quilt for my brother and sister in law. The look of it seemed to fit their San Antonio home. I bought the background fabric, but pulled the rest from my stash, building up from the maroon flower centers. I cut out the pieces one weekend, and put them together the following weekend. The overall effect was truly gorgeous. They were both very happy with the quilt.

Oh My Stars 1 & 2

My local quilt guild invited Pat Sloan to come talk in March. We were challenged at the February meeting to make one of these quilts by the time she came. I pulled charm packs and yardage from my stash, and couldn't decide which to make, so I made both. Both were quilted and bound in time for Pat's visit.
