I'm still pretty new to quilting, but now that my kids are older and not so underfoot I have more time to devote to it. My late grandmother, my mother and my sister have all quilted for years, and even though my aesthetic tends to be more modern than that of my mom and sister, we love sharing thoughts and suggestions about each others' projects.

Scrappy Spiral
I loved a project I saw online using scrappy strips and basic foundation piecing and replicated it almost exactly. I thought it just begged for a huge spiral quilting design, which I've always wanted to try. I think I may be a terrible person, though, using this pattern intended for charity quilts for kids on a quilt I loved so much I kept for myself!

I work with a talented graphic designer (my own job is not remotely art-related!) and when she got pregnant with a baby girl I knew I could deviate a bit from the standard baby quilt. I designed this myself but later saw patterns online that were almost identical.

Lakehouse quilt
I saw a very similar quilt online and decided to use the pattern and similar fabrics to make a lakehouse quilt for a friend who had offered to host a summer girls' weekend. The pattern is called "Ground Cover" and it's super easy and goes together quickly. I liked the modern take with patriotic colors.

Ripples in Teal
Easiest quilt ever to make - just snowballed layer cake squares. When it came to quilting diagonal wavy lines, though, I learned that "wrestling" leads to ripples. Though it's technically not great quilting, I ended up loving the texture it added and how, combined with the colors, it looked like ripples in water.

Dana's T-block
I loved the T-block tutorial quilt that Jenny made, but ended up not very happy with the quilt - I eventually realized that the sashing was just too dark to get the right "floating" kind of look that had so appealed to me. But, my daughter loved it, so it's hers now!

Retirement gift
Made this quilt for my brother as he retires for the second time. He retired after 26 years in the Navy and is now retiring as a hospital administrator in NC. Love him!! Pattern is "Bleachers" from MSQC. This is the first "real" quilt I have ever made-- from a pattern, with a real binding, etc. Just used straight line quilting with my walking foot. Lots of flaws but I had a lot of fun making it and am looking forward to my next project.

Passing Pinwheels
This quilt is a custom product of the ladies and gentleman that attended the 2015 MSQC Fall Forum Retreat. Everyone participated in pinwheel construction and layout of the quilt. The result is a beautiful compilation of multi-direction spinning pinwheels. The fabrics come from my grandmothers stash and MSQC! We plan to gift the quilt to a shelter. I named it "Passing Pinwheels" after seeing this poem online.
