First Quilt

First quilt, lost to time, time found
Browsing through fabrics I saw Feed Company by Sweetwater for Moda. It reminded me of the quilt my great grandmother made for my mom. It was made of feed sacks and clothing scraps. Time was not kind to that quilt and it is gone now. I don't have much free time so the jelly roll race video from MSQC appealed to me. I was able to make the whole quilt over 2 days.

Turnover a Rainbow
I had been wanting to do a herringbone quilt and I had a turnover that I wasn't exactly sure what to do with, so the cold, dark days of winter make me feel like making something bright and cheerful. This HST went together very quickly, and I was so happy to find a "sunshine" color for the backing!

Hummingbird Garden
This is the quilt I made as a wedding present for my brother and sister-in-law. They have several hummingbird feeders in their yard and enjoy watching the hummingbirds. When I saw the name on the pattern -"Hummingbird" - I knew it was the one I wanted to use. Quilting is stitch-in-the-ditch around the "hummingbirds" and hand quilted in the middle of each hummingbird and the background.

Origins and Broken Bar
I used Origins Jelly Roll and mixed it with some left over layer cake pieces to make Broken Bar as seen on Jenny's tutorial. If it's easy enough for Jenny's grandson, who doesn't sew, it's a great one for me. I love fast and easy ones that I can finish in a weekend. I also love the masculine looking fabric used in this quilt. I usually make quilts with floral prints so this is a diversion. Thanks for looking, Quilt on Weekend Warriors. . .

I saw this quilt years...and years ago on Simply Quilts and knew I wanted to make it. I found the pattern in "Patchwork Picnic" by Suzette Halferty and Nancy Martin and started it in 2003. I finished piecing and appliqueing in 2004 but didn't finish the hand quilting until 2009. It's a happy quilt and I still love it.

Love to my daughter
My desire to learn quilting began when my youngest was a babe. I didn't get around to actually learning until she was 20 though. The stars are all new material representing colors she likes as well as things she enjoys. The scrappy blocks are primarily baby/toddler clothes that did not get lost over the years with a touch of new fabric to complete blocks as needed.

Mother's rose
This quilt is a blooming nine patch that I made for my mother. My grandmother's favorite flower was a lilac rose. That is where I started when picking out fabric, lilac. The quilt was a gift to my mother on her 70th birthday. I seen the quilt in a quilt shop many years ago and have been waiting for the right moment to make it.

Hannah and the Owls
After the birth of my first daughter, I found myself unable to find time to quilt the way I used to. One day, I told my daughter, who was now 6 years old that I wanted to make a blanket for her. We went to the fabric shop and picked out the colors. We drew a design and went to work. I even cut my quilt back too small by mistake and has to use a jelly roll remnant to make up the difference.
