This is the first quilt I made a year ago after taking a beginning quilting class at my local quilt shop. I am 69 years old and I hadn't sewn anything except hem pants since high school home ec class over 50 years ago. The instructors hovered over me the entire class because I was so unskilled at using a sewing machine. I know it's a simple pattern, but I love this quilt. I am now addicted to quilting. My stash is so large that I could probably open my own fabric shop...LOL! I love the Internet, Jennie Doan, and all quilting blogs, Pinterest, etc. I watch tutorials all the time. My desire to quilt was peaked when my grandmother gave my sisters and I quilts before she passed...I want to do the same for my granddaughters and I'm well on my way to doing so. My grandmother's quilt is coming apart and faded, but one of these days I will take it apart and put it back together again, label it, and pass it on to one of my daughters.

I made this quit for my granddaughter's 18th birthday. She suffers from periodic depression and I wanted something that she could wrap up in when she's feeling down that would give her comfort and security. I used bright, happy colors and quilted it in the Angel Wings pantograph which adds to it's purpose. I got the pattern from Jenny Doan's magazine, but when I began putting the blocks together, I thought it was too busy so I started rearranging them and this is what I came up with. My granddaugher tells me all the time how much she enjoys this quilt.

I made this quilt for my great niece's 25th birthday. My sister (Misha's grandmother) is gone, so I try to fill in, although I could never do the grandmotherly job that my sister did. Anyway, I wanted to make a very simple but pretty quilt, and I saw this pattern done in red and white on Pinterest. I think it's equally lovely in blue and white.
