I'm a 69 year old grandmother who is retired and living in Boise, Idaho. I am a new quilter with less than two years of experience in both quilting and sewing. I hadn't done any sewing since high school home ec class back in the 60's before taking my first quilt class in the fall of 2013. My instructors hovered over me and gave me lots of attention in class to ensure I was doing everything right. I was shaking so badly just threading the needle, I wasn't sure I was going to get my project done! I bought a sewing machine in KMart before class not knowing what to buy. Needless to say, I replaced that machine a year later with my Janome which I love. I took a long arm class a year later and have done three quilts on the long arm machine. Most of the time I quilt my own projects using my Janome. I'm still learning, of course, but my quilting is getting better with every project (I've done about 15 projects since beginning to quilt). My one regret is not finding quilting sooner. All those years of trying to find a hobby I could stick with are gone. I'm just happy, though, to have found quilting and the wonderful community of quilters I have become friends with. Quilting has given me so much comfort the last year when my daughter decided she didn't want to speak with me and I had to have my hip replaced last fall. I literally locked myself in my sewing room and spent hours cutting, sewing, and quilting to alleviate the emotional and physical pain. Listening to oldies music and sewing have been my saviors this last year and I'm grateful to both.
