Bright & Bold Carpenter's Star

I made my oldest daughter (in picture) a Carpenter's Star, oversized queen, for her birthday. She had long ago worn out the quilt I made her when she was a teenager and had been asking for another quilt for quite some time. I decided to use bright, bold, happy fabrics rather than more traditional ones.

Starbright Baby Quilt

I retired, bought a new machine and decided I want to learn how to quilt. This is my very first quilt ever! I was so excited to get it finished so I could give it to my friend before her first baby arrived. Her baby room theme was elephants, in coral & gray. I appliquéd the elephant, embroidered baby "Brynlee" and hearts & other elephants. I didn't know about all the fabulous tutorials by MSQC when I made this quilt. If I had I would have bought a charm pak instead of spending so much time picking out fabric and cutting. I put my old rusty sewing skills to the test! Since this quilt I have learned so much from Jenny's tutorials. The 2nd quilt "Sail Away" became a reality after I watched Jenny's tutorial at least 10 times. I have a long way to go before I can call myself a quilter but I am certainly enjoying the journey!

Chains of Luck

Some projects have a way of blossoming. I started this quilt as a small scrappy lap quilt from some of my grandmothers stash. However, my dad visited while I was working on it and commented that it should be Queen size... Then he brought me a book of celtic knots for "inspiration" and made me a quilt ladder, complete with celtic knots and dragons for my birthday! SO, I made a queen size quilt, complete with quaternary knots, known for their luck! The quilt has double batting, cotton on the bottom, wool on top, to help the knots "pop". I'm such a lucky kid to have a great dad!
